We pray and hope this finds you in the best of health.

We hope that you will not mind if we intrude upon a few minutes of your time to peruse this earnest appeal.

The Tana Baru Trust was established in 1998 under the leadership of the late Imam Abdurahman Bassier with the objective of restoringmaintaining and preserving this historic heritage site.

Many of the pioneers of Islam at the Cape like Tuan Guru, Tuan Sayed Alawie and Paay Schaapie (Tuan Nuruman), royalty brought here in chains from Malaysia, lie buried here at the Tana Baru cemetery.

Algamdulillah, with the help of a few dedicated workers the desecration of this sacred precinct was arrested and a restoration programme put in place. In February 2009 a Site Management Task Team was brought in specifically to address the challenge of maintaining the precinct in a pristine state.

Since then, this task team has manfully soldiered on to try and bring a semblance of respectability to this sanctuary, surviving on a shoestring budget and the goodwill of a few dedicated individuals.
However, with a monthly budget that has to cater for the salaries of grass-cutters, water, electricity, petrol for the weed-eaters, cartage of the garden refuse and ongoing minor repairs, the basic maintenance cost has rocketed to almost R10,000 a month.

We are thus desperately in need of your support.  We realise that there are other deserving charities out there but please spare us a thought.  We have a seven step strategy which we are keen to implement subject to adequate funding.

We trust that a physically robust, intellectually stimulating and spiritually enriching year lies ahead for you and your family – In Shaa-Allah …  Aameen .

Thanking you for your ongoing support.
